We would like to invite you to the three day 5th Virtual Design Education Forum. The theme for this year’s Forum is:
Has the love of money killed art and design education? Is it time to consider alternatives?

We will also be having themes on Design Entrepreneurship, the Future of Design Education, Design Services, Design Narratives, Design Communication and Design Sustainability in an art and design education context. We started in 2019 with the vision of creating a practice based event that celebrates creativity in #Art and #Education without limitations or preconceived ideas.
This year’s event, builds on the success of #VDEF22, #VDE21, #VDEF20 and #ADEF19, bringing design education specialists from all over the world, to share their teaching and learning experience, their similarities and differences in teaching Art and Design at an international level, while rediscovering the common language of art and design. Our speakers will be proposing creative, direct and applicable solutions to the many challenges that affect art and design education today.
Our mission is to bring together industry, lecturers and students to discover new ways of working together, forging curriculum that is more appropriate for this time. This is a is a practitioner’s forum that seeks solutions that are immediately applicable for the betterment of Art and Design Education as a whole. This year’s forum will take place currently online.
At the New Art School, we are a team of committed individuals that are creating the next generation of artists and designers through a curriculum that is centred on observation and hand, heart, eye coordination. We encourage the use of hands, that is ultimately what distinguishes us from a mac monkey. We will also be completely abolishing failure and grading systems. Our focus is on ideas, ideals, skills and abilities aiming to reverse the current climate of blandism, ultimately creating independent individuals able to design their life. Since a great deal of information on art and design is now widely available, our focus is on learning via doing while the students take complete responsibility for their learning.
#VDEF23 is produced and hosted by Lefteris Heretakis aCSDf MA RCA in collaboration with Design Day Marathon, The Chartered Society of Designers, CEIDA and FIDA.
Lefteris is a designer, lecturer and podcaster. Lefteris has been illustrating and designing since 1996 when he founded Heretakis & Associates. In 2009, he began to lecture in visual communication design in the UK and around the world. After an extensive period of continuous reflexive research on art and design education Lefteris created the first design education forum in 2019, that led to the creation of “design education talks podcast”. Since 2021 he is also the host of “designer talks podcast” from the Chartered Society of Designers.
Design Day Marathon is a large-scale international design workshop initiated by the Science, Art and Fashion Festival and jointly organised by Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology and domestic and foreign universities. The content of the event includes lectures, workshops and exhibitions, etc. Since 2016, it has gathered more than 100 universities from more than 10 countries to participate, and it has accumulated more than 7,000 students during the process. It is not only an international design education platform for schools, teachers, students and the industry but also an open design communication platform for discussing design issues, sharing design aspirations and producing high value-added schemes.
The Chartered Society of Designers (CSD) is a professional body for designers. It is the only Royal Chartered body of experienced designers. Its membership is multi-disciplinary — representing designers in all design, disciplines including Interior Design, Product Design, Graphic Design, Fashion and Textile Design. Founded in 1930 as Society of Industrial Artists, the Society is governed by Royal Charter (granted in 1976). Members are obliged by a Code of Conduct to practice to the highest professional standards. CSD is a registered charity. Its Royal Patron was Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Membership in the Society is awarded to qualified designers who demonstrate competence against CPSK (TM) (Creativity, Professionalism, Skills, and Knowledge).
Fida© is the first global online platform to promote fashion illustration and drawing around the world, supported and partnered by some of the best brands and people in the fashion industry. Fida was launched to support and educate artists and creatives, to embrace fashion and drawing into their practice, commercially and artistically. The journey began with the Fashion Illustration Drawing Awards, celebrating existing and rising stars, judged by industry-leading creatives, including Cecilia Carlstedt, Laura Laine, Gill Button, Ignasi Monreal (Gucci artist), David Downton, Richard Haines and Bil Donovon, to name a few. The FIDA awards, which happen twice a year, align with fashion show schedules around the globe, to keep in the eye line of press and industry.
China Europe International Design and Culture Association (CEIDA) is the first international industrial exchange platform based on the frontline design and related cultural forces in China, Europe and worldwide. The association currently has over three hundreds members and six hundreds prospective members from all over the world including China, Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Liechtenstein, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Turkey, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bulgaria, Ecuador, Chile, Mexico, Peru, and Argentina, etc.
